The abominable peewee sorcerer Rumpelstiltskin is obsessed with possessing an infant of royal birth. Plotting and scheming, he spreads the word that the miller’s daughter can weave straw into gold. When she’s swept off to the king’s palace and ordered to spin, Rumpelstiltskin magically helps her deliver the gold. But there’s a high price to pay—after she marries the prince, she must give the imp her firstborn child. When the baby is born, Rumpelstiltskin reappears and demands the child. Unless the princess can guess the wizard’s heretofore unknown name in twenty-four hours, she will have to give up her only child forever. The play ends hilariously when Rumplestiltskin fails to stump the princess, and he himself ends up paying for his actions!
